CALL FOR ENTRIES - THE 2nd INIGO FILM FESTIVAL 2008 FOR SHORT FILMS
Press Release

Young film makers are welcome to submit their films until April 10, 2008

The Conference of European Jesuit Provincials is to be the patron of the 2nd Inigo Film Festival (TIFF) for short films in 2008. It is inviting filmmakers born in 1973 or later to submit entries which will be shown during the World Youth Day in July this year in Sydney, Australia. Announcing the Jesuits' patronage, the President of the Conference of European Provincials, Fr Mark Rotsaert SJ, said he was delighted after the great success in 2005 in Germany that the Society was supporting young filmmakers again. He stated that the theme of the 2008 competition would be City of God.

"The films should reflect the spiritual yearnings and experiences of young people today, using the medium of film," said Fr Rotsaert. "For example, we will welcome submissions that show the presence and absence of God in our modern secularized world; and we also welcome films that take into account the twin dimensions of faith and justice."

The "Inigo Award" will be given to the three best short films. There will be a first prize of 2.500 Euro, with a second and third prize of 1.500 Euro and 1.000 Euro respectively. There will be two additional non-monetary Awards: one to a film chosen by the audience, "The Audience Award", and a "Special Award" recognizing emerging young film makers who might not have access to professional equipment.

The regular deadline for entries is March 15, 2008; the late deadline April 10, 2008. Submission form is available on: www.tiffestival.org

The main sponsors of TIFF 2008 are the Jesuits, Verlagsgruppe Weltbild and the German Bishops' Conference.

The 1st Inigo Film Festival 2005 took place during World Youth Day in Cologne, Germany. It received 48 entries from around the world to include: Austria, Canada, China, France, Germany, Italy, the Philippines, Portugal, Sri Lanka, Slovenia and the United States of America. Most of the films were narratives, one third were documentaries and three were animated. The film festival was very well received by the young audience.
